The Great British Trademark Bakeoff

Baking judge and Great British bakeoff host, Paul Hollywood, intends to open a  a bakery called “Knead” in north London’s Euston station later this month.

It will, we learn, sell sandwiches and sausage rolls, pies, pastries and breakfast butties and is backed by the food giant SSP.

There’s only one problem,  a well known bakery in London famed for its chocolate crumpets operates under the same name and is a supplier to the likes of  Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason and Harvey Nichols, as well as many London coffee shops and restaurants with  their specialty crumpets.

But founders Anita Janusic and  partner Christine Faughlin failed to trademark their logo last year and Hollywood’s backer SSP who have registered the name  has told them to cease and desist unless they want to end up in court.

And you thought the quarter finals in bakeoff was cut-throat !
